What shouldn't be done on Good Friday?.

One of the most severe and serious days of the year is the Friday before Easter. Passionate, Great, Great Heel - all variants of its names. It was on this day that Jesus was crucified on the cross, and before this act he underwent inhuman bodily torture. As a sign of empathy and sharing of the sufferings of Christ, people have been venerating the Great Heel for more than one hundred years and observing certain conventions. How to properly spend this day and what not to do on Good Friday is worth figuring out, because over the years, a lot of superstitions, conventions and customs have gathered that can confuse a person who is ignorant of such matters.

Behavior and mood

No need to be afraid of Good Friday - there is nothing wrong with this day. You just need to tune in to a quiet time with peace and humility in your soul. It is advisable to attend church services three times - morning, lunch and evening liturgy. They also pray at home in front of the home iconostasis.

It would be good to study the fragments from the Gospel, where the execution of the Son of God is mentioned, and reflect on the theme of his torment on the cross in the name of mankind. In general, throughout the Holy Week it will not hurt to read the prayers of the Monk Ephraim the Syrian, a Christian theologian, prophet and preacher who lived in the 4th century and devoted his life to church teachings on repentance.

Under no circumstances should one succumb to the temptation to swear and swear on such a day. Even if a person is strongly provoked into a scandal, it is better to restrain himself. It is believed that whoever does not fulfill this condition will shed tears for a whole year.

Pastime

As already mentioned, nothing should distract a person on Good Friday from praying and thinking about God. If possible, they try not to work on this day. All important matters are postponed for later or carried out until now. The only exception can be caring for the little, the old and the sick.

It is strictly forbidden to arrange cleaning in the house and in the surrounding area. All preparations for cleaning are finished on Maundy Thursday. The same goes for cooking - Easter meals and daily meals are prepared on previous days.

It is advisable not to visit the cemetery or clean up on Good Friday. If this date falls on the anniversary of the death of a relative, funerals at home and in church can be organized a day or two before it.

It is also forbidden to do needlework on such a day. You cannot sew, knit, embroider, spin. Even a button that has fallen off from a coat is better to be sewn back on the next day.

It is believed that bodily purity is also brought before Good Friday. All Clean Thursday is reserved for bathing procedures. In Passionate they do not wash or do it late in the evening, closer to midnight. All cosmetic procedures such as dyeing and cutting hair, renewing manicure and rejuvenating masks are also postponed for at least a day.

Any entertainment activities are strictly prohibited. It does not matter whether it is a birthday or any other event that takes place on Good Friday, but it is forbidden to arrange feasts, visit entertainment venues, overeat and consume alcoholic beverages under any pretext. Jokes, laughter and excessive gaiety are another undesirable aspect. A person should grieve over the death of Christ and repent of his sins, and not arrange large-scale fun.

Accordingly, they do not hold wedding ceremonies and church weddings (in principle, no priest will give the go-ahead for this). In general, marrying in fasting is a very bad omen, non-observance of which portends an unhappy marriage, the birth of sick children or the inability to bear them.

Movies, theater, watching TV at home, listening to songs and radio broadcasts, and using the Internet are also prohibited activities on the day of Jesus' crucifixion.

Marital bedding, much less extramarital cohabitation, shall be excluded on Good Friday. If for some reason a person does not observe the entire forty-day fast, then as a sign of respect for the Christian faith on this day he can refrain from sinful actions and thoughts, limiting himself to small deprivation.

Other superstitions

All of the above prohibitions, in fact, are popular superstitions, since the church does not support or approve of them, considering it a science from the evil one. Everything that the Orthodox faith recommends is fasting. But people still continue to honor traditions from year to year, so there is even a list of prohibited purchases.

According to knowledgeable people, the purchase of a new bed on Good Friday leads to a serious illness along with a new bed. Also, you cannot buy piercing and cutting objects and, in general, construction equipment (knives, nails, scissors, axes, hammers). Accordingly, slaughtering cattle and slaughtering a bird on such a day is a great sin. This is done after the end of Bright Week, that is, Easter week.

On the Friday before Easter, you should never spit (and even if necessary) on the ground. Whoever does not comply with this prohibition will go to another world within a year from serious illnesses or an accident. At least that's what the old people say.

Observance of the Fast

Christians on Good Friday try to avoid eating altogether until midnight and only on Saturday allow themselves light snacks. But this is not entirely true. It is allowed to eat bread and drink plain water after taking out the Shroud (a ceremony during a service in the church) and after the liturgy. They starve only until this time.

It is worth remembering that strict fasting is not required for those suffering from any medical condition. This rule is also not required to comply with pregnant women, small children, frail old people and the military, that is, those whose health is already less strong or whose body is subject to stress. If you want to fast, you can simply not overeat or refuse animal food: meat, sausages, eggs, milk, cottage cheese, and so on. Depriving oneself of even at least one most beloved product is already considered a small but fast for the listed categories of citizens.
