The smallest dog in the world.

The chapter of the Guinness Book of Records dedicated to pets has been enriched with a new achievement. Named the smallest living dog in the world. This is a tiny but brave Millie, a Chihuahua from Puerto Rico. At the age of three years, the dog has a height of 6.53 cm at the withers and reaches a weight of 170 grams.

Smallest star: biography

The owner, Vanessa Semler, had a hard time raising her pet - when Millie was born, she weighed about 25 grams and could easily fit into a walnut shell. The puppy could not feed from his mother, he had to feed him from a pipette. The growing doggie was distinguished by excellent appetite, but he never caught up with his brothers, although the Semlers pampered his pet with all sorts of delicacies.

Miniature size does not prevent Millie from being a full-fledged dog - she is proportionally built, active and cheerful. This is a purebred smooth-haired Chihuahua, which, apart from its height, fully meets the breed standards. At home, Millie is distrustful of strangers and guards the territory, as befits a dog. She assumes a threatening pose and tries to bark at the alien.

But in public, Millie's character changes dramatically - she feels like a star of the first magnitude. Most of all, according to the owner, the dog loves to pose in front of the cameras. Noticing the aimed lens, she "smiles", sticking out her tiny tongue, and picturesquely freezes, like an experienced actor at a photo shoot.

The Semlers are a childless couple, they devote all their attention to tiny Millie. And she does not get tired of pleasing the owners. “Everyone is amazed when they see her - why is there so much energy in such a lump. People love her, ”says Vanessa. The dog benefits society - she has appeared in charity promotions, forming a creative duet with the largest dog on the planet.

Breed record holders

Before Millie, the smallest dog was Boo-boo (Whisperer) - a long-haired Chihuahua from Kentucky. Bu-bu's height is 10.16 cm, and the weight does not reach 200 grams. The previous owner of the title of the smallest dog in the world was, again, a long-haired Chihuahua - a male named Blu (Massachusetts, USA). This representative of the breed “stretched out” right up to 12.38 cm. Danka was preceded by Danka (Slovakia), she also belonged to the glorious Chihuahua tribe...

abbreviated name Chihuahua) 15 cm in length, from nose to tip of tail. She could also receive a prize for the title of the most fragile dog, if such was awarded. Brandy is not even allowed on the stairs, fearing for her thin bones. But the dog does not lose heart, loves to play hide and seek and is friends with another pet - a huge boxer named Tyson.

But history knows one more dog, less than which was not born on Earth.

The gene responsible for size in the canine family is special - "floating". It is to him that we owe such a variety among our four-legged friends.
