The difference between AI-95 and AI-92 gasoline.

Gasoline is the main fuel used for refueling vehicles. It is obtained by distilling oil, during which several fractions are formed, one of which is gasoline. Automobile gasoline according to GOST

  • Normal - 80;
  • Regular - 92;
  • Premium - 95;
  • Super - 98.

The numbers next to the name of gasoline are called the octane number. The higher the octane number, the better, since its value determines the degree of stability of gasoline molecules, ensuring the absence of detonation.

Currently, all brands of gasoline can be seen at gas stations, but AI-92, AI-95 and AI-98 are most in demand. The letter A in the gasoline brand indicates that the gasoline is intended for use in cars. The letter I - says that the octane number was determined by a research method. High-octane gasoline grades are more expensive.

Gasoline AI-92

Gasoline AI-92, corresponding to the Regular motor gasoline group, is a high-octane motor fuel used in carburetor internal combustion engines. These engines operate at a high compression ratio. This type of gasoline provides high knock resistance and smooth engine operation. Gasoline AI-92 belongs to the “endangered” types of fuel and is no longer produced in the EU countries. This is the most common brand of gasoline used in major cities of the Russian Federation and Ukraine. Leaded (the amount of lead is less than 0.15 g / l) and unleaded (the amount of lead is up to 0.013 g / l) can be produced, it contains anti-knock additives.

Gasoline AI-95

Gasoline AI-95 corresponds to the Premium motor gasoline group. This is gasoline of improved quality. For its preparation, gasoline of catalytic cracking of distillate raw materials with the addition of isoparaffinic and aromatic components and gas gasoline is used. It contains anti-knock additives. The company produces unleaded gasoline with a lead content of up to 0.013 g / l. There are also motor gasoline AI-95 of the "Extra" class. In all its properties, it is similar to ordinary AI-95 gasoline, but does not contain lead.

Comparison

The difference between gasoline AI-92 and AI-95 lies in the difference in octane numbers, which is only 2-3 units. In the practical use of these gasolines, there is no significant difference, since there is no noticeable decrease in the combustion rate. If the increase in octane is achieved by the addition of ethers as additives, which occurs most often, the combustion rate becomes higher. As a result, there is a small savings in the amount of gasoline and a lower toxicity of the exhaust gases. At the same time, there is a detonation margin, a decrease in the likelihood of burnout of pistons and engine valves.

Thus, when choosing between AI-95 and AI-92 gasoline, preference should be given to the former. In the absence of AI-95, the reverse transition to low-octane gasoline is possible, but it should be considered as a backup option. This is recommended by most modern car manufacturers. Unfortunately, as practice shows, the quality of gasoline often depends not so much on the octane number as on the decency of the manufacturer and seller.

Conclusions TheDifference.ru

  1. Gasoline AI-95 has a higher octane number, due to which the degree of stability is higher, the probability of detonation and exhaust toxicity are lower.
  2. If there is a choice, AI-95 gasoline should be preferred.
