What paint to paint the furniture?

Any person has a depressed mood. There are many ways to overcome it, and one of them is to change the familiar environment. Often, rearranging furniture is enough to combat the blues. Well, if this turns out to be not enough, then you can think about changing its appearance and colors. But with what paint to paint furniture to give it a new look?

About paints and wood finishing

When solving this problem, you first need to decide on the final result. If the furniture is made of solid wood and you want to emphasize its texture, then you need to use varnishes or translucent paints. If chipboard served as the material for the manufacture, then it is better to use those of them that completely hide the entire surface and structural defects.

With all the variety of paints, they are divided into two categories:

  • water-soluble, consisting of the corresponding pigments and binders;
  • oil.

Coatings can be either glossy or matte. This is ensured by the use of different colors. Enamels give glossy coatings, oily ones - matte. Water-soluble acrylic paints are best suited for furnishing furniture. They dry quickly, are easy to use and come in a wide range of colors. When choosing which paint to paint wooden furniture, it is worth giving preference to them, unless, of course, there are any additional requirements.

Another feature is that coatings intended for interior work are used for interior decoration. If you want to paint something outside, such as benches, then you need to use the appropriate materials.

How to paint furniture

This is a simple procedure available to everyone. Usually kitchen furniture, various cabinets and chairs (stools) are painted. It can be new, recently made, and old, in need of restoration. In each case, the approach will be different.

Painting new furniture

The work is carried out in several stages.

  • Initially, it is necessary to sand the tree. This is done with sandpaper in the direction of the texture. You can use a sander. If there are any surface defects (chips, cracks, etc.), then they must first be putty and then sanded. The operation is carried out in several passes, in each subsequent step the grain size of the skin decreases. As a result, a flat plane will be obtained without any defects.
  • The surface must be primed. This provides better paint adhesion and also reduces paint consumption.
  • After the primer is dry, you can start finishing. As already noted, it is preferable to use acrylic paint. It is easy to apply, dries quickly and has no unpleasant odor. The desired coating is created with a brush or spray gun.

Painting old furniture

If you want to somehow use the existing old furniture and give it a new look, then the simplest an option is to paint it. First, all the fittings are removed from the furniture, and then the old coating. For this, various methods are used, most often chemical and mechanical. In the first case, the surface is treated with special solutions that soften the paint, and in the second, the old coating is simply removed with sandpaper.

After this is done, you can proceed directly to the finishing. Basically, the surface of old furniture has no defects, but if they are, then they must be putty and sanded. It is permissible to finish finishing with both ordinary paint and the one that is packaged in cans. There is practically no difference between the two. Which paint is best for painting furniture is a matter of personal choice, but it is believed that the use of spray cans provides a smoother finish.
