What is the spiritual sphere of society?.

In the social system, formations are distinguished, called spheres of society. They are stable, significant subsystems that reflect one side or another of people's lives. Let's consider what the spiritual sphere of society is, what structural elements it consists of, what is its social role.

Disclosure of the concept

The spiritual sphere is one of the directions of social life, which reflects the specifics of moral, ideological, intellectual relations between people. These relations arise in the production, transmission, perception and development of spiritual values.

The spiritual sphere is considered as purposefully organized non-material life of people. If the material side of life is associated with the satisfaction of such tangible needs as food, clothing, transport, and the like, then the spiritual sphere is aimed at developing a worldview, consciousness, and various moral qualities.

Spiritual needs opposite to material ones are not biologically set. Their formation and development takes place in the process of socialization, the formation of the personality. One can live without satisfying these needs, but such an existence will be like the life of animals.

Within the spiritual sphere, both producing and consuming activities are carried out. Theories, ideas, artistic images, the inner world of people and spiritual relations become the products of spiritual production. Spiritual consumption refers to the satisfaction of spiritual needs.

The main structural elements

The following components of the spiritual sphere of society are distinguished:

  1. Morality. These are established generally accepted norms of behavior based on ideas about right and wrong, good and evil, acceptable and unacceptable. Morality existed already at the initial stages of human development, since the rules reflecting the fundamental values of society are the most important regulators of any kind of social relationship.
  2. Religion. In a scientific sense, it is a form of perception of the world based on belief in the supernatural. A religious person feels a connection with a higher existence, which is characterized by consistency and organization. Any religion is characterized by certain norms and patterns of behavior, as well as the unification of people.
  3. Science. On the one hand, it is a body of knowledge about the world, on the other, human activity aimed at developing, arguing, and systematizing this knowledge. Scientific knowledge is distinguished by objectivity, that is, the display of various phenomena and patterns in the form in which they exist independently of the will of a person.
  4. Education. This term refers to the process by which knowledge is transferred and assimilated, skills and abilities are acquired. Education contributes to the development of the mind and feelings of a person, the formation of his own opinion, value system, worldview. Without compulsory knowledge, it is impossible to fully communicate with other people and feel comfortable enough in society.
  5. Art. In a broad sense, it is craftsmanship whose products are aesthetic pleasure. Art is a way of expressing a variety of emotions and ideas. Only gifted people are able to present to the public works that evoke a response. Art contributes to the emergence through sensations of certain feelings, thoughts, ideas.
  6. Culture. It is made up of the spiritual achievements and values of society. Cultural customs are created on their basis. Different countries and nations differ in their culture. This is due to the peculiarities of their development and the fact that each country or nation has its own historical past.

The spiritual sphere of the life of society is aimed at changing the individual and social consciousness for the better. The personal and intellectual growth of each person, an increase in the level of morality, the opportunity for people to express their creative potential - all this contributes to the constant spiritual enrichment of society as a whole.
