This model is good for its versatility: it suits any type of figure and goes well with many wardrobe items. Taking it as a basis, you can create many interesting ensembles, sustained in different styles, from romance and country to classics and avant-garde. Therefore, in case of a successful attempt to master the art of tailoring, she will never become an unnecessary thing in the wardrobe of a fashionista.

Tools and accessories

To create a sun skirt, a dressmaker, in addition to a sewing machine, may need:

  • tape;
  • tailor's chalk or marker, but a pointed bar of soap can also be used;
  • fabric, the quantity and quality of which depends on the desired result;
  • sewing machine thread - usually # 40 - matching the color of the fabric;
  • contrasting thread used for basting;
  • zipper up to 20 cm;
  • A button or hook if a fabric belt is provided;
  • wide elastic if the model involves the use of elastic material for fixing at the waist;
  • A narrow elastic if you intend to insert it into the drawstring that runs along the top edge of the garment.

Overlock is preferred for tissue sections. If there is no such device, you can replace it with a zigzag seam made on a typewriter.

Necessary measurements

The first step in sewing a sun skirt is taking measurements. Only two of them are required: the length of the product (DI) and the girth of the waist or hips (OT or ABOUT, respectively). CI is measured from the waist down and depends only on the wishes of the woman. But which of the last two data options is needed depends on the model.

If you plan to make a skirt with a rigid belt and a zipper, you should focus on OT. If the top of the product will be fixed at the waist with an elastic band inserted into the drawstring or stitched to the edge of the fabric, it is necessary to use OB in the calculations.

Fabric

Thin flowing fabrics - satin, silk, chintz are perfect for a summer sun skirt. In cold seasons, it is advisable to use denser materials - dress or skirt. They can have both natural and mixed composition.

The most convenient option is a plain canvas, but you can also use fabrics with a pattern, however, it must be symmetrical - a cage, peas, etc. It is not recommended to use material with pile, striped, large or coupon pattern due to the difficulties in combining individual elements. Only an experienced craftswoman can beautifully sew a sun skirt with her own hands from such fabric.

The required amount of material depends on the length of the future product. As a rule, for short and children's skirts, a square cut is enough, the side of which is equal to the width of the canvas. Longer models require a different layout of the pattern, therefore, for an approximate calculation, the following formula is used: 4DI 2OT / 3 10. When creating a skirt with an elastic band, OT is replaced by OB.

Construction of patterns and layout of parts on fabric

In most cases, a short sun skirt does not require preliminary drawing of a pattern on paper. All the necessary lines can be drawn immediately on the wrong side of the fabric. To build them, it will be enough to use a soft tailor's meter and chalk. As a rule, there is enough material residues for the belt parts.

The finished pattern will look as shown in the figure:

It should be explained that R1 = OT / 6.28 or OB / 6.28, and R2 = R1 CI. For convenience, you can draw the necessary lines by folding the fabric twice: along the share, and then along the weft thread. With this tactic, point O will be at the edge of the segment where all the folds converge.

Options for the layout of pattern parts for long models are shown in the photo:

In examples No. 1, 2, 4 and 5, you can act in the same way as in as described above, drawing lines directly onto the fabric. But when repeating Fig. 3 it will not be possible to do without a paper blank. Each item in this situation will be equal to ¼ of the complete product.

After drawing the main lines, mark the seam allowances and hem and waist allowances. Do not make them too wide, 1.5-2 cm will be enough, otherwise the product will look rough.

Sewing technology

Having prepared all the details, you can proceed to the final stage - connecting them into a single whole. The procedure is as follows:

  1. Stitch side seams, if any, and process the cuts.
  2. Insert the zipper into the side or back seam, if provided by the model.
  3. Form the waistline in the chosen way: sew a wide elastic band, make a belt with a loop and a button or a hook, or insert a regular elastic band into the drawstring.
  4. Let the skirt hang down so that its bottom edge, which has different angles with respect to the lobar thread, takes its final shape under the influence of gravity. You can speed up the process by steaming the product. Another option is to wash it in lukewarm water and let it dry naturally.
  5. Align the bottom of the skirt using a mannequin or an assistant.
  6. Finish hem.
