How to hang kitchen cabinets?

When replacing a kitchen unit, it becomes necessary to install new wall cabinets. Since they often store a lot of dishes, cabinet fasteners must withstand heavy loads and guarantee reliability. In addition, the headset cabinets are at eye level, and errors in the calculations during installation will be striking. There are two options for hanging kitchen cabinets: on traditional hinges or on a DIN rail. And if the walls are leveled with plasterboard, plasterboard anchors are additionally required. If the kitchen unit is corner, markup and hanging of cabinets start from the corner.

Hanging the cabinet on the hinges

which cabinets will hang. It depends on the required space between them and the countertop (usually 55-60 cm) and the vertical dimensions of the cabinets. The height of the hinge will affect the usability of the cabinet shelves and appliances on the countertop.

A horizontal line is marked along the future upper border of the cabinet, checking it with a building level. Then it is determined in what place on the back wall of the cabinet the hinge will be screwed. It can be indented from the side wall. Taking it into account, they make a mark for the hook on the wall so that in the future the cabinet will have the desired horizontal position, and not be shifted to the side. The mark for the second hook is usually made by placing the cabinet against the wall or by accurately measuring the distance between the hinges. The marks are checked by level.

Next, drill holes for the dowels. The minimum size of dowels for cabinets is “six”, but their actual diameter is 5.5 mm. This should be taken into account when selecting a drill so that the dowel fits snugly in the resulting hole and does not turn. After screwing in the screws (special screws with hooks are often used), you can hang the cabinet and check its position.

In order to securely fix cabinets on walls with plasterboard, it is better to use anchors of the "Molly" type, which are fixed in the wall itself and, when pulled together, form a stop that distributes the load on the drywall sheet. If you hang cabinets directly on drywall, its sheet and profile may not support the weight.

Hanging on a mounting strip (rail)

that such a design will not ensure a snug fit of the cabinets to the wall. For the gap to be uniform over the entire height, either fix the second rail to the wall at the bottom of the cabinet, or adjust the installation height so that the bottom of the cabinet "overlaps" with the kitchen backsplash. At the same time, hangers with slats have several advantages over conventional hooks and loops:

  • it is easier to mark for the fastening strip;
  • the accuracy of the installation of the cabinets is higher;
  • hangers are adjustable for precise fit;
  • cabinet assembly and disassembly is faster and easier;
  • it is possible to put cabinets in one tight row without gaps.

To hang the cabinets on a mounting rail, the hangers must be attached to the side panels. The hanger hook should protrude beyond the side sheet so that it can catch on the bar. Next, you need to measure the distance from the hook to the top sheet of the cabinet. Taking it into account and taking into account the desired height of the cabinet, the places for the mounting holes for the rail are marked according to the level. After installing the dowels, the rail is screwed to the wall.

If the wall has a high load-bearing capacity, the rail can be divided into several separate parts, while the horizontal position of the cabinets will be limited. After hanging the cabinets on the mounting plate, the structure is fine-tuned using the screws in the hangers. Then, if there are several cabinets, they are fastened with an intersectional coupler and the doors on adjacent cabinets are aligned.
