Difference between satin and cotton.

There are so many types of fabrics that it is not always easy to understand them. For example, not everyone will answer the question of how satin differs from cotton. Let's try to find out.

Definition

Satin is a traditional cotton material with a special type of weaving.

Cotton - fibers of the plant of the same name, from which many fabrics are made.

Comparison

So, we are talking about concepts related to two independent categories. The difference between satin and cotton is that the first word denotes the weaving technique, and the second denotes the origin of the fabric.

Satin, in principle, can be called both a synthetic and a silk product, but usually in this case it is the cotton matter that is meant. This kind of fabric is considered exquisite. Of no small importance here is the fact that only raw materials of the best quality are used for its manufacture.

The satin fabric is based on bulkier fibers, and the outer side is made of those that are thinner. The weaving is complex, the facial threads in it, after a few steps, are woven into the purl. As a result, the material takes on a luxurious look. But the main thing is the gloss of satin, similar to silk. It is achieved due to the fact that the threads for the manufacture of fabric are taken well twisted.

In addition, there are sateen grades with an even more pronounced shine, for which methods such as mercerization and calendering are used. It must be said that the glossy effect of the fabric under discussion is present only on the outside. The bottom surface of the products is matte, which is undoubtedly an advantage of bed linen, which is most often made from satin, because it does not slide on the base, but reliably adheres to it.

Satin not only has a noble glossy sheen. It is also characterized by softness that is pleasant to the body and firmness for long-term use. Due to all these advantages, the material costs accordingly - more expensive than other options of the same origin.

Considering the difference between satin and cotton, mention should be made of other samples made from the fibers of the southern plant. These include, for example, coarse calico. She has a simple, "checkerboard" weaving of threads and a completely ordinary look. This fabric is rough, but practical, very wearable and costs much less. Another variety is poplin. This material is, as it were, intermediate between the two already mentioned, both in quality and in price. There are other options for cotton fabrics.
