Difference between resume and autobiography.

Often in relation to a person who wants to get a particular job, a requirement is put forward: to tell about himself in writing. In some cases, it is about writing a resume, in others - about writing an autobiography, and sometimes it is necessary to provide both. And although these documents have a lot in common, it would be wrong to call them identical.

Definition

Summary - a document that sets out the information necessary when considering the candidacy of a person applying for a job.

Autobiography - a description by a person of the key stages of his own life, made in an arbitrary form.

Comparison

Purpose

Why do you need a resume? In order, having familiarized yourself with it, to understand how valuable the applicant is as a potential employee and whether it is worth inviting him further for an interview for a closer acquaintance at a personal meeting. It is important for an employer to see a qualified specialist in the submitted resume who will contribute to the achievement of the goals set for the enterprise or company.

The autobiography is also intended to make a proper impression on the employer and influence his opinion in the selection of personnel. However, the information in it makes it possible not only to see a person in the light of his professional activity, but also to draw up a psychological characterization of a candidate for a workplace (the style of presentation and accents play an important role here).

Content

The difference between a resume and an autobiography is that it is compiled for a specific vacancy for which a person is applied. The main emphasis in the resume is placed on the professional qualities of the applicant, his education, completed advanced training courses, work experience in the required field, achievements and merits in this area, etc. In this case, for example, it does not matter who the parents of the author of the resume or what socially useful activity, not related to the chosen position, he is engaged in.

It is allowed to include in an autobiography not only facts related to education and directly professional activities. The document, for example, may state why it was decided to leave the previous job (explanation of the motives of behavior), or justify the desire to become an employee of this particular organization. Personal information is often included in the autobiography: social origin, year of marriage, etc. An interesting autobiography can become a kind of bonus for the applicant and give him a chance to get the desired place, so it should not be underestimated.

Level of detail

The summary is sketchy. It only reflects the key points. The document must be drawn up so that the employer needs less than a minute to obtain the complete information he needs about the applicant. To do this, use clear proposals that do not contain unnecessary details.

Thoughts in an autobiography are presented in a more complex manner, the narrative is supplemented with details. For example, if it is enough to list the existing awards in the resume, then in the autobiography it is not forbidden to state in detail what was done to receive them.

Length

How long should each of the documents be, and what is the difference between a resume and an autobiography, if you compare them according to this criterion? It should be noted here that the summary, due to the peculiarities of its writing, has a smaller volume. However, when compiling such a document, it is necessary to focus not on the number of pages, but on the fact that the maximum brevity in it is combined with the maximum information content.

An autobiographical narrative is not limited in length, since a narrative of this kind can provide much more information on each item.
