Difference between MRI and MSCT.

The second half of the last century was marked by the rapid development of science, which allowed doctors to obtain new information using high-quality diagnostic methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and multispiral computed tomography (MSCT). However, sometimes it is not possible for the practicing physician to determine which of the methods is most preferable for each particular patient. Today we will try to answer the question, what is the difference between MSCT and MRI, and which of the research methods is suitable for each specific case.

Definition

Multislice computed tomography is based on scanning the human body using a fan-shaped X-ray beam. An important aspect in this study is the transmission of X-rays, which converts the received data into electrical signals, transfers them to a computer for further data processing and image synthesis. Initially, computer diagnostics were intended only for the brain, but later an apparatus for scanning the whole body appeared. Today, multislice computed tomography is one of the most highly effective and modern research methods.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most modern and effective methods of radiation diagnostics, which allows to obtain an image of the internal bone structures of the human body. The most important advantage of this research method is the absence of radiation exposure, as well as the fact that it can be carried out taking into account the anatomical and physical characteristics of the patient. Tomography provides an image of an object that is placed in a constant magnetic field.

Comparison

The main advantage of MRI is the ability to obtain images in any plane (including soft tissue structures). This is a non-invasive research method that can be performed without special preparation of the patient. However, MRI is the most informative for examining the spine, brain and spinal cord, retroperitoneal space and abdominal organs, pelvic organs, as well as tissues, joints and blood vessels.

The main advantage of MSCT is the ability to obtain thin sections, reshape images in other planes, display the structure of the thin walls of the tear ducts with an assessment of their configuration, build three-dimensional structures, assess the prevalence of tumors in the accessory sinuses and adjacent structures.

Conclusions TheDifference.ru

  1. MSCT is a method of spiral obtaining of image slices of a certain organ. MRI is the acquisition of an image of an object placed in a magnetic field.
  2. MSCT is more suitable for obtaining images from soft tissue organs, MRI is ideal for imaging bone tissue.
