Difference between iPad and laptop

Apple, every year improving its tablets, is trying not only to oust competitors from the market, but also to unite its entire segments for itself. Once Steve Jobs talked about the transition to the era of "post-PC", not so long ago, his successor Tim Cook predicted the new iPad Pro will become a replacement for laptops. Let's see how the iPad differs from the laptop and whether the latter will soon disappear from the windows, thus making way with an apple on its back.

Aypad (this is a Russian transcription, and correctly iPad) is a family of tablet computers designed, created and produced by Apple Corporation. By the end of 2015, there were seven generations of full-size devices and four iPad mini releases, a smaller version.

Aypad

Laptop is a portable folding computer, in the case of which, in addition to the system hardware, a screen, keyboard and touchpad are mounted.

Comparison

As you can see, laptops are a whole class of devices, which includes, by the way, those made by Apple. Only they are usually called "MacBooks", which does not change the essence at all. But not all of the iPad is a tablet, but every iPad is a tablet PC. So we will mainly look for the difference between these types of portable computers.

The functional purpose of these devices is different. This allowed Tim Cook to talk about replacing laptops with tablets: many users do not use all the capabilities of the latter. The iPad is needed for surfing the Internet, playing audio and video, reading mail and communicating on social networks, studying and briefly editing documents, creating and storing photos. He can be a great constant companion, brightening up the road, waiting and just a lonely evening.

A laptop copes with all this perfectly, only it is designed to solve much more serious tasks. This mobile system is capable of replacing a desktop computer, yielding only in performance: not too high capacities limit its use in a number of demanding applications and games.

Binding exclusively to "apple" services is the difference between the iPad, we expect and get independence and versatility from a laptop (and the MacBook is no exception). The file system of Apple tablets is closed, and you won't be able to scatter your files into folders to facilitate navigation. The iPad is controlled by the iOS operating system, and the user can interact with it only on its terms. So, you can download and play music and videos through iTunes, and you can take applications only from the App Store.

Almost any laptop assumes complete freedom of the user. Manufacturers, although they recommend a certain OS (including it most often in the delivery), do not regulate the installation of any others in any way. Software, content, methods of obtaining and preserving them remain on the conscience of the person who administers the system. This opens up the broadest possibilities for work, limited solely by the desire of the owner and the performance of the hardware.

The first thing that the eye notices when comparing a laptop with an iPad is the keyboard, or rather, its absence from the Apple tablet (like any other). This is the most significant criterion when choosing: to type text of any kind and purpose in large volumes, you need familiar keys. True, the iPad connects to I / O devices, but with them almost all of its advantages are lost.

iPad Pro

Among them - light weight and modest dimensions. True, the last member of the iPad Pro family boasts a 12.9 "screen diagonal (the rest are standard 9.7", and mini - 7.9 "), which is quite comparable to 13-inch laptops, but most models are located in the 15 range, 6 "- 17.5". Accordingly, the weight of Apple tablets is 662 g (iPad4) and 713 g (Pro), and laptops are still noticeably more massive. But working behind a relatively large display is much more comfortable, and you don't have to hold it in your hands, and the tilt can be adjusted.

Laptop screens are unassuming and always leave a lot to be desired (apart from Retina). Aypads also got remarkable matrices with a high pixel density, so that clarity, contrast, brightness, viewing angles are at an almost unattainable height. Apple devices were also lucky with cameras: firstly, there are two of them (laptops have one, front-facing), and secondly, the main resolution is up to 8 megapixels (in recent releases). The laptop is not intended for shooting at all, and the maximum of its capabilities is video chat.

With regard to wireless modules, both of our devices are not deprived of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Aypad, as a mobile device, also supports connection to networks of the same name: there is a slot for the operator's SIM card, which allows you to implement 2G, 3G and now 4G. The laptop can only access them using an external modem.

Autonomy is the main attractive feature of any mobile PC. For our keyboard assistants, it is rather arbitrary: 3-4 hours of battery life should be considered a boon for many models. The iPad lives up to 10 hours without power at high loads, and it can be in standby mode for a month (according to Apple, but in reality, of course, a little less, but also quite long).

Authenticity is where the difference between an iPad and a laptop becomes fundamental. Computer systems, if they were not developed by Yabloko, are relatively universal constructors, their components are interchangeable. Manufacturers actually design, customize software, and assemble laptops in various configurations. Inside the i-electronics are Apple processors, and you won't find them in other tablets. Authenticity also affects interfaces: iPad connects to a PC, monitor, player and other devices exclusively through the Lightning connector. Laptops also have USB, Ethernet, HDMI, VGA, DisplayPort for direct connection to all sorts of electronic peripherals and networks.
